Recent studies have shown that as men age, their testosterone levels go down. Many of us have felt the effects of this testosterone drop, but some of us didn’t know what the cause was. We just knew we couldn’t workout as hard, couldn’t go as long, and maybe even started to see effects in the bedroom.

Finally we have some answers. Which is important because some of these topics can be hard to talk about. Thankfully we have research to explain why we feel some of these effects: our bodies aren’t working as hard as we are. Even more thankfully we finally have some products to help us with our low testosterone.

We reviewed five of the best products on the market to help with testosterone boosting. And by five of the best, we mean these are the five best. But they all work a little differently. There was no one of these clearly better than the rest, but each was the best in their given category. Afterward we included a brief segment about which ingredients to look for in T-supplements, and an FAQ.

TestoPrime: Best Overall

As you read our reviews you're going to see a number of the same ingredients, and there’s a good reason for it. There are proven and studied ingredients that many supplement makers have cottoned onto. What sets TestoPrime apart isn’t their ingredients: it’s how much of each ingredient they use and it’s their lifetime guarantee.

TestoPrime has been around for a while, and for good reason. To get that kind of traction, a company needs a proven product and customer loyalty. TestoPrime has both of those things. They use a proven and researched ingredient, D-Aspartic Acid, or D-Asp, and they follow that up with other studied ingredients like Red Ginseng and Fenugreek.

A lot of products use D-Asp, Fenugreek, and Red Ginseng. But TestoPrime has them in quantities we didn’t see in any other product. We found an article that really highlights how useful red ginseng is increasing testosterone, and the study points out that red (or Asian) ginseng has benefits that generic American ginseng just doesn’t have. And TestoPrime has ginseng in levels almost 50 times more than their competitors.

In addition to the ginseng, TestoPrime also has fenugreek, another ingredient with a lot of research behind it in recent years. And TestoPrime has 4 to 5 times more fenugreek than their competitors. You can read more about these two ingredients after the reviews, where we link to some of the research we did on all the popular ingredients.

It follows that using quality ingredients means their product works, and that their customers are happy. Customers of TestoPrime are so happy, and TestoPrime is so confident in their product, that they offer a lifetime, 100% money back guarantee. You read that correctly. TestoPrime offers a lifetime satisfaction guarantee.

    StrengthSeries Vitality: Best Plant-Derived

Almost every product on our list has D-Asp in it, and for good reason. But some people may want to stay away from newer chemical compounds. And one product we reviewed decided to use only studied and researched plant derivatives and minerals to find the most natural and herbal testosterone booster. The company is Transparent Labs, and their product is Vitality Testosterone Support from their StrengthSeries of supplements.

Transparent Labs uses only 8 ingredients, all of them found in nature. Three of them specifically are proprietary, and two are plant-derived ingredients that come with a long history. Many of the ingredients are found in other products, but we didn’t see anywhere else this unique combination of proprietary formulas put together into such a potent package.

The benefits of using other proprietary derivatives is that Transparent Labs takes the hard work of herbal specialists and perfects it in their own laboratories into a game-changing product. They can save time, money, and resources by letting other companies perfect each extract, and then choose the best product on the market for each ingredient.

Ashwagandha root has been used for male health and anti-aging benefits for centuries, and Vitality Testosterone Support has a whopping 600mg of it. They use KSM-66®, made by Ixoreal Biomed, the self-described Ashwagandha experts. KSM-66 has a score of studies supporting its use for testosterone, male sexual health, libido, and even anxiety.

The next ingredient in Vitality that caught our eye was LJ100®, a tongkat ali extract. There are 15 human studies so far published that researched the use of tongkat ali for testosterone boosting and anti-aging benefits.

Ashwagandha and even tongkat are found in a few other supplements, but one we didn’t see anywhere else on our list was Shilajit, a compound found literally in the rocks of the Himalaya mountains. Like any product though, there are experts and then there’s everyone else. A leader in Shilajit production is Natreon, and Vitality has their PrimaVie®. This Shilajit is so potent for T-boosting and anti-aging effects that they have a patent pending for its use as a steroidogenic benefit.

    Ingredients (tap to open)

  • Zinc (as L-OptiZinc® (L-Methionine))
  • Organic Ashwagandha Extract (as KSM-66®)
  • Shilajit Extract (as PrimaVie®)
  • Quercetin Dihydrate
  • DIM (Diindolylmethane)
  • LJ100® (Standardized Eurycoma longifolia extract)
  • Bioperine® (Black Pepper (Fruit) Extract)
  • Boron (as Bororganic Glycine)
  • PROS

    - Proprietary and plant-derived.

    - 8 simple ingredients.

    - Helps lose weight and burn fat.

    - Dozens of studies backing ingredients.

    - Non-GMO.

    CONS

    - No D-Asp (which is actually a PRO for why they made our list).

    - Newer product without long track record.

Sometimes the older ingredients are the best and most studied. That’s the case with three key herbal and natural ingredients in Vitality from Transparent Labs. If you’re looking to avoid the common ingredient D-Asp, and want something plant-derived, this is the Best we found. On Transparent Lab’s website, you can get your first bottle for $59.00.

    Testogen: Best D-Asp Quantity

On the other side of the spectrum from people who want to avoid D-Asp are those of us who want as much of it as they can get. After all, D-Asp is one of the most researched ingredients in recent years for boosting the body’s ability to actually produce testosterone. And the highest levels of D-Asp we saw were in Testogen.

If you haven’t heard about D-Asp before this review, we encourage you to check out our segment below on the research we did for ingredients to look for. In a nutshell, D-Asp works. There have been studies showing up to 42% increases in testosterone in a matter of weeks. Real increases in short time spans really can’t be beat.

While almost every product we looked at had some D-Asp (see the Best Plant-Derived formula, above), Testogen has the most of this researched ingredient. For a comparison, one product we saw on the market has as little as 1600mg. Testogen has an intense 2,352mg per dose. That’s over 45% more D-Asp than some of its competitors.

In fact, we found some D-Asp standalone supplements on the market with less per dose than we found in Testogen. And those D-Asp solo products don’t have any of the other T-boosting ingredients in Testogen.

Speaking of those other ingredients, Testogen wouldn’t have made our list with only one ingredient. They also include the Red Ginseng and Fenugreek common to a lot of popular testosterone products, and they also have Nettle Leaf Extract, another researched herbal product.

Testogen finishes off their product with 6 vitamins and minerals that help your body with testosterone boosting and retention. Taken together with their highest quantity of D-Asp, and they have a powerful product.

You can find a full Testogen Review here.

  • PROS

    - Most D-Asp on the market.

    - Three other herbal ingredients with long histories of T-boosting.

    - Over 25 clinical studies backing their research.

    - No synthetic ingredients

    CONS

    - D-Asp levels may be high for some consumers.

    - Not available in stores.

Researching testosterone boosters takes a lot of reading, and a lot of separating the wheat from the chaff. When it was all said and done, we came away with a list of ingredients that were clearly better than the rest, with D-Asp leading the way. Testogen is our recommendation for anyone looking for the most D-Asp on the market. You can get it only from their website and some other online retailers. On their own site the first bottle is $59.99.

    Prime Male: Best Estrogen Blocker

When it comes to hormone health there are a number of factors, from diet to exercise, and yes, age. Age may be the factor that most affects our ability to produce and retain testosterone. One aspect of aging that goes under the radar, in addition to dropping T, is that sometimes we increase our estrogen, the enemy of testosterone. For limiting our body’s estrogen production and use, we recommend Prime Male.

Made in the UK, Prime Male distinguishes itself on our list by including Luteolin, a flavonoid from citrus plants. While there are a number of plant derivatives on the market, from herbs to oils, Luteolin has a dual effect found unique.

The first thing Luteolin does is stimulate steroidogenic activity in the body. In fact, we found a study that describes Luteolin as one of the only flavenes they looked at that actually produces results in fighting hypogonadism, which is when you stop producing hormones from the gonads. In layman’s terms, as we age we stop producing these hormones from our gonads, and Luteolin helps fight that stoppage.

Of course many of the ingredients we looked at helped produce testosterone, but what about fighting estrogen? After all, too much estrogen as we age can lead to increased body fat, ED, and even infertility. And fighting estrogen is how the Luteolin in Prime Male made our list.

Initially studied for fighting breast cancer, Luteolin in this study was shown to reduce the body’s biosynthesis of estrogen. People have been looking at pharmaceuticals for decades to help with hormone balance, often times leading to shady and illegal supplements. But here we have an all-natural plant product that actually reduces estrogen levels in subjects.

Prime Male combines the testosterone boosting, estrogen reducing ingredient Luteolin with some of the other ingredients we already know, including D-Asp, red ginseng, and ashwagandha. This formula not only helps your body produce the hormones you’re looking for, but inhibits the hormone you’re trying to avoid.

    TestoFuel: Best Balanced Formula

At this point in the reviews we’ve seen a lot of the same researched ingredients. Like we said at the top, these are all great products, and we kept them all on the list for specific benefits. If at this point you’re still undecided because of how many formulas are so similar, we recommend TestoFuel, as it has the Best Balanced recipe on the list.

TestoFuel relied on well-studied ingredients for its very lean 9 ingredient list. They use almost as much D-Asp as Testogen, and almost as much fenugreek and red ginseng as TestoPrime. With this best-of-both-worlds approach, TestoFuel has carved a niche for themselves where you get a well-rounded formula for total testosterone boosting.

Finishing off their recipe, TestoFuel has one ingredient that sets them apart: oyster extract. We probably don’t need to tell you what makes oyster extract so important for male health. What you might not know is why it works. The secret is Zinc. An essential mineral that many of us don’t get enough of, Zinc plays a vital role in male hormonal and sexual health.

The rest of the formula for TestoFuel is full of other essential nutrients, like vitamins D and K, Magnesium, and even 250% of your daily vitamin B6 allowance. These all work in concert to create a male health supplement that not only helps your testosterone but also boosts your metabolism and performance.

    Ingredient Research

Given the number of claims on the internet, it behooves us all to look into the proof and research behind the noise. Some products out there promise the world and barely deliver a physical product, let alone any results. On the other hand, a number of ingredients turned up again and again. Turns out those ingredients came up so often for good reason. We put together a list of ingredients with the best research behind them, with links to the actual papers written about them.

D-Aspartic Acid: this is an amino acid that has been researched to actually increase the body’s ability to produce its own testosterone. The best aggregate study we found was from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and you can read it here.

Fenugreek: an extract from a seed, this has been used for years in herbal and traditional medicines. A study sponsored by Jacksonville University and published here at ClinicalTrials.gov found that fenugreek did indeed increase testosterone in men.

Red Ginseng (Panax ginseng): it’s important to note the Latin name here. Panax quinquefolius is American ginseng, and it does not have the same support from studies or research as red, or Asian, ginseng. Always check the label of your supplement. We only recommend Panax ginseng, and found a great study here from Biomedical Science Letters.

Luteolin: we already linked to a study about this flavene, but here it is again. Extracted from citrus fruits, this has some powerful potential to not only increase testosterone, but to reduce estrogen, as well.

Ashwagandha Root: found in many testosterone boosters, and even sold by itself for male health, there is some evidence that it can stimulate testosterone health. We found another study from the NIH, and linked it here. We should note that hormones act in complex ways, and this study does not support evidence of help with fatigue or other symptoms of aging.

Tongkat Ali: while we did find a lot of anecdotal evidence for Tongkat Ali for testosterone production, this study from NIH indicated that it’s most useful for stress-hormone reduction, rather than age-related testosterone. It should also be noted that there have been cases of adulteration or contamination in some products claiming to contain Tongkat Ali. Always research a product that lists it as an ingredient.

Shilajit: we only found this in one product, and it’s made from the actual rocks of the Himalayas. The best evidence supporting its effect on boosting testosterone was a small study, but it showed statistically significant increases in testosterone.

    Conclusion

We looked at a number of products on the market to find you the best testosterone boosters out there. Narrowing it down wasn’t easy, but we got it to five. Each of them is the best for what you might be looking for, whether its balance or estrogen reduction. If you still have questions about ingredients or research, keep reading for some of our notes and FAQs.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Are Testosterone Boosters Safe?

Yes, all the products on our list have had no reported side effects. That said, you should consult your doctor if you are on any prescription meds.

    Are Testosterone Boosters Legal?

Yes, all of the supplements we recommend are 100% legal. You should always check ingredient lists (which in these cases we’ve done for you). That’s because anything claiming to contain actual HGH or testosterone should only be legally available with a prescription for specific medical conditions.

    Do Testosterone Boosters Work?

Everyone’s body is different, and a lot of factors go into how our hormones are regulated. Everything from sleep to diet, from hydration to exercise can influence testosterone production and retention. Based on our research and reviews, the five products we reviewed have the best track records of actually helping some men.

    Are Testosterone Boosters Steroids?

No, testosterone boosters are not steroids. Testosterone boosters use natural ingredients to tell your body to produce more testosterone. Some of them also help your body maintain a healthy balance between estrogen and testosterone while others help the body transport testosterone to areas they are needed.

Steroids, on the other hand, are man-made drugs that help increase muscle mass and improve performance. However, they do come with serious health risks.

How Soon Can I See Results?

Depending on the product you use, some people claim results in as little as two weeks, while others recommend waiting up to two months to see the full effects.

Is One Ingredient Better Than the Rest?

We didn’t see a lot of evidence for any one ingredient over any others. Typically speaking, the best funding in clinical trials goes to products that treat or cure a disease. Because Low-T is not a disease, there isn’t a lot of funding to conduct full clinicals on products or ingredients. We linked above to some of the best research we could find.

    Why Should I Choose A Natural T-Booster?

A lot of people are learning about the potential side effects of synthetic steroids and supplements, and are moving towards more natural and safer options, like testosterone boosters.

These all-natural boosters kick start testosterone production in the body. The boosters discussed above have numerous health benefits which range from better sleep and improved cognitive function to increased muscle mass. They are also great for those looking for a leaner body, a better sex life, higher energy levels and more, without any side effects.
